Lighthearted Football Analytics of the English Premier League

Introducing Football BI

“Football is a game of skill. We kicked them a bit and they kicked us a bit”.

Graham Roberts (Former Tottenham player)

Whether it’s the Graham Roberts kicking game or Pep’s tiki-taka style, we love to analyze football. Welcome to footballbi.co.uk, a light-hearted football analysis blog using Power BI.

Introducing “Big Jon” Football analytics pundit

In the style of legendary experts such as “Big Ron” Atkinson each week our “expert” analyst “Big Jon” will blog the most eye-catching trends of the forthcoming English Premier league fixtures in terms of historic results, goals and yellow cards in the classic “pundit” manner of clichés, stereo-typical phrases and cool quotes borrowed from music and films.

The Power BI Premier League Football Analysis Model

A snip of the English Power BI Premier League Football model

” Algorithms? We don’t need no stinking algorithms”

“Big Jon – old school football pundit

Using data from the last five seasons of English Premier League results, our model will give you the historic trends in this weekend’s fixtures to watch for. Did you know:

Southampton have yet to win away at Everton in five seasons
Burnley in their last five visits to Man City have conceded 20 goals and scored just one

(Aside – married to a Claret I am acutely aware of Burnley’s abysmal away record to City having suffered in the away end on too many occasions.)

To bet or not to bet?

The elephant in the room wearing football boots is that whilst this football model was not built with betting in mind, as the source data comes from www.football-data.co.uk, a website providing a results and betting service, it is inevitable that people use this type of data as research for bets. No data would have predicted Burnley ending Liverpool’s home last season so if you do bet then please act responsibly and keep it small and friendly.
